About Cavity Fillings

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. When a tooth has to be restored, the dentist will first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned-out-cavity with dental fillings.

In olden days, silver color dental fillings were used which was unaesthetic. They had another disadvantage of recurrence of decay due to weak bonding between filling and tooth.

Nowadays, tooth-colored materials (GIC or composites) are used as dental fillings that camouflage with the natural tooth. Additionally, they also prevent the recurrence of decay. The only issue with this material is the strength of the GIC may vary with the manual mix.

At Denta Kings, we use the most advanced machine-mixed filling material which has high strength and quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, cavities can form if the seal between the filling and tooth breaks down, allowing bacteria to enter. Regular dental check-ups help detect any issues early.

It’s recommended to wait at least 1-2 hours before eating, especially if a local anesthetic was used. Soft foods are preferable to avoid pressure on the filled tooth.

Sensitivity after a filling is common and may last a few days. It usually occurs due to nerve irritation or the filling being slightly high. Consult your dentist if it persists.

The longevity of a filling depends on the material used. Composite fillings last about 5-7 years, while amalgam fillings can last 10-15 years with proper care.
